A social enterprise helping people with second hand furniture and electrical appliances, waste and WEEE recycling together with work experience.
SOFA Project Bristol was founded in 1982 as the ‘Shifting Old Furniture Around’ Project. What started as one man and a van has now grown to a large shop supported by 8 lorries and vans, a workshop, two warehouses and 20 staff capable of collecting and delivering all over the Bristol and Avon area.
SOFA’s charitable objective was set as supplying second hand furniture, household goods and domestic electrical appliances to people in conditions of need by sourcing items from community donors. In time this has expanded to include graded items sourced from manufacturers like Baumatic and retailers like Dixon’s and these are now attracting people looking to buy more ‘smartly’ for their home refurbishments.
We Sell
affordable new, nearly new and second hand furniture and household items to everyone, with further discounts available to those on low income and benefits.
We Collect
items and WEEE waste from residential and commercial donors across the Avon region. Electrical items are checked and processed for recycling (we recycle fridges and freezers), and where possible repaired and PAT safety tested for resale in our shop. We can also provide assistance with part house and furniture clearance. Soft furnishings must have safety labels and state "Carelessness Causes Fire".
SOFA helps over 6500 households a year to furnish their homes at affordable prices and we collect over 25,000 items a year that would otherwise have gone to landfill.
Work Experience
is organised and provided direct, as well as through New Deal, and Pathways to Work.
